VIA KT333 Based Mainboard from Gigabyte. [02/05/2002 08:28 PM]

Today we got hold of Gigabyte’s press release saying that Gigabyte appeared the world’s first company to launch a mainboard based on a DDR333 core logic from VIA KT333. The board is called GA-7VRXP. However, this statement is not hundred percent true. The first company to launch VIA KT333 based mainboard appeared Soltek, which announced their solution on January 17 (see this news story). The second one to launch the board on this chipset was Biostar, which announced its product on January 24 (see this news story). So, Gigabyte turns out the third one, no matter what the press release says.

However, let’s leave this matter aside for a while and pay due attention to the mainboard itself. Although Gigabyte failed to bear the palm, its product on VIA KT333 is the today’s richest, as far as the features go. Have a look yourselves. GA-7VRXP is equipped with Socket462, an AGP slot and 6 PCI slots. Besides, there is an integrated ATA/133 RAID controller from Promise (PDC 20276), 6-channel sound controller from Creative (CT5880) and USB 2.0 controller from NEC supporting 4 USB 2.0 ports.

This mainboard is expected to start selling after the official announcement of VIA KT333 chipset, i.e. in March.
