Well, finally we got some information on the results of the battle between the leading processor manufacturers in 2001 reported by a respectful independent source. Here is what Dean McCarron, the president of Mercury Research Company (Scottsdale, Arizona) told the public, as we read here:

Company20002001Changes
Intel82.2%78.7%-3.5%
AMD16.2%20.2%+4.0%
VIA1.6%1.1%-0.5%

Well, no comments seem to be needed here. Everything is quite evident. The only thing that surprised us a little bit is the reduction of the VIA processors share in the overall market. We thought that the share could hardly be any smaller than in the year 2000, however, we were mistaken.
