Intel to Introduce XScale Microarchitecture Processor in Mid February. [01/17/2002 11:38 AM]

According to our reliable sources, Intel will introduce two new processors based on Intel XScale microarchitecture for handhelds and the emerging data-enabled cell phone and wireless device market segments on February 12. The new products, which will be launched on that day, will be build on the success of the Intel StrongARM technology used in many personal digital technology assistants, 2.5G and 3G phones today:
  • Intel PXA250 applications processor delivers advanced integration, leadership multimedia performance and superior power savings for full-featured handheld communicators and handheld PDAs. Its features are:
    • Intel Xscale Core at 200, 300 and 400MHz
    • Micro-power management through low power modes and application acceleration with Turbo modes
    • Multimedia acceleration through Intel Media Processing Technology
    • MMC/SD & PCMCIA/CF Card support for expandable storage and I/O devices like 802.11b or cameras
    • Variety of Comm-Ports (USB, 1.84MHz baseband interface, BlueTooth I/F @ 920KB/sec)
    • Memory Controller supports 2.5V & 3.3V 16/32-bit memories
    • 17x17mm 256-pin PBGA package
  • Intel PXA210 applications processor delivers a highly integrated, reduced foot-print, scalable solution for print, small form factor handheld and wireless devices. Its features are:
    • Intel XScale Core at 133-200MHz
    • Micro-power management to extend battery life
    • MMC/SD support for expandable storage and I/O devices like cameras and fingerprint readers
    • Wireless Connectivity (1.84MHz baseband interface, BlueTooth I/F @ 920KB/sec)
    • Memory Controller supports 2.5V & 3.3V 16-bit memories
    • USB support
    • 13x13mm 225-pin TPBGA package
If you are looking for more details on Intel XScale microarchitecture, go here. Supposedly, the first devices built on Intel PXA250 and Intel PXA210 will be available in the market before the end of the year.
