Pentium 4 (Northwood) 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz to Come, But... [01/11/2002 10:46 AM]

Hardly have we expressed our content with the fact that Intel is going to start shipping 0.13micron Pentium 4 processors with 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz core clock (see this news story), as The Inquirer interrupted everybody’s joy at once. An Intel official told them that these CPUs will be intended only for a very limited number of PC users and are very unlikely to get into the mass market.
Well, as usual :( And how promising the future of these processors could be! Just imagine: a Pentium 4 with 512KB L2 cache costing about $180 (it is the approximate price of the Pentium 4 1.6AGHz) and a potential ability to overclock by 1.5 times. It looks really like a "Celeron 1A in the Performance sector". It’s a great pity...
