We would like to remind you that next week promises to be rich in new processor announcements. In the beginning of the week Intel and AMD were going to introduce new models in their fastest CPU families. On January 7, 2002 we will welcome Intel Pentium 4 2.0AGHz and Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz based on the new 0.13micron Northwood core. Almost at the same time AMD will launch its new Athlon XP 2000+ though still based on the older Palomino core.
Despite the fact that there is almost a week left before these CPUs official announcement, they are already selling in mane hardware stores worldwide. In particular, we have already written hat Pentium 4 (Northwood) processors are selling in Japan. As for Athlon XP 2000+, it is available not only in the country of the Rising Sun now. When we were writing this news story, Pricewatch contained seven links to stores offering this processor. Its prices range from $340 to $366, which is a bit lower than the cost of both Pentium 4 newcomers, as usual.
The interesting thing is that Celeron 1.3GHz CPUs, which should be announced on the same day are also available in many stores. This way, the actual sales of the new processors now start well ahead of their official announcements. Funny...
