The launching date for the new 0.13micron Pentium 4 CPUs is no longer a secret thanks to various media including X-bit. Now everyone knows that it will happen on Monday, January 7, 2002.
However, the day before yesterday Silicon Strategies reported that this event will take place three days earlier: on Friday, January 4. At first, we were pretty much sure that it was a mistake, but then we thought that it might be a war ruse of Intel’s. Maybe they wanted to announce their 0.13micron Pentium 4 ahead of AMD Athlon XP 2000+, which was to be launched together with the rival from Intel, and at the same time teach a lesson to the too curious media :-) Especially since the report over at Silicon Strategies could have been corrected a thousand times, but nothing of the kind happened: the date remained unchanged. On the other hand, Intel has always launched its new products on Mondays, and we really doubt that something might change this time. Anyway, there is only one way to check if it’s true or not: to wait for January 4 and see if it is a ruse move or an ordinary mistake.
