They’ve got everything necessary: the logo, the presentations, white papers and even the CPUs for these systems with a new marking. A really pleasing sight for a sore eye. And now let’s return from heavens to the sinful earth and take a pragmatic look at what has been really announced:
| Platform Name | CPU | North Bridge | South Bridge |
|---|---|---|---|
| VIA Eden VE1000 Family | |||
| VIA Eden VE1400 | ESP4000 | PLE133 | VT8231/VT82C686B |
| VIA Eden VE1500 | ESP5000 | ||
| VIA Eden VE1600 | ESP6000 | ||
| VIA Eden VE2000 Family | |||
| VIA Eden VE2400 | ESP4000 | PN133T | VT8231/VT82C686B |
| VIA Eden VE2500 | ESP5000 | ||
| VIA Eden VE2600 | ESP6000 | ||
As you may have already understood, there is nothing new about these platforms: the same Samuel II (0.15micron) and Ezra (0.13micron) CPUs, PLE133 chipsets with integrated Trident Blade 3D graphics core and mobile VIA ProSavage PN133T chipset (aka twister with the integrated Savage4 graphics core), standard South Bridges… But what an announcement!
Unfortunately, we can’t quite make out the core clock frequencies of the ESP processors. Also we don’t know what processor core is used (as we understand the models marked as VE1600 and VE2600 are built on Ezra and the rest – on Samuel II). However, it is not that very important for integrated systems. Of course, all the mentioned above platforms have integrated AC’97 sound, 10/100 Ethernet, MC’97 modem, USB 1.1 ports and can be provided with IEEE 1394 support, USB 2.0 and TV-Out if necessary.
VE1400, VE1500, VE2400 and VE2500 Eden systems have already started shipping, and VE1600 and VE2600 will start shipping in Q1’02. As usual, they are targeted for Value (even cheap) systems with the minimal upgrade opportunities (or even completely without any): Information PCs, Set Top Boxes, gaming consoles, web terminals, Tablet PCs, routers, etc.
