And again a few words about this thorny subject: the DDR memory. According to Digitimes, DRAMeXchange reports that the overall production of DDR SDRAM in November made 22 million 128Mbit chips and up to 6.6 million 256Mbit chips, i.e. altogether 35.2 million "128Mbit equivalents". The same DRAMeXchange forecasts that in December the overall production volume will reach 38 million 128Mbit chips and 9.2 million 256Mbit chips making 56.4 million "128Mbit equivalents". It means that the production growth will exceed 60% within only one month.
Taking into account the intentions of such companies as Samsung, Micron, Hynix and Nanya (see this news story), this forecast is not at all surprising. However, we can’t make out where this crazy demand for DDR SDRAM comes from? Is it the upcoming announcement of the i845 B-Step chipset that has stimulated it? Strange as it might seem, but we didn’t notice anything special about this chipset (see this news story). It suddenly occurred to us: may be it is the large distributors that fill their stocks with memory hoping that the demand will grow sharply in the near future, and there is no rush in the customer demand?
