AMD, just like its major competitor, Intel, has also put into life the planned processor price reduction. The eldest Athlon XP 1800+ with 1.53Ghz clock frequency and all the three Duron CPUs got cheaper (the prices are given for 1,000-unit quantities):

CPUOld PriceNew PricePrice Reduction
Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53GHz)$252$22311.5%
Duron (Morgan) 1.1GHz$103$8913.6%
Duron (Morgan) 1GHz$89$7416.9%
Duron (Spitfire) 950MHz$74$696.8%

We would like to remind you here that the real retail prices on AMD CPUs are very often lower than the official ones that is why the table above is of more theoretical or formal importance rather than of practical importance. However, we have to draw your attention to the fact that prices have been reduced so that to make Duron 1.1GHz much cheaper than the competing Celeron 1.2GHz ($103), and the cost of Athlon XP 1800+ appeared nearly equal to that of the Pentium 4 1.8GHz ($225). Well, and after all that AMD will claim that they never took into account the Pentium 4 family when building up their Athlon XP performance rating? :-)
If you are looking for the complete price list on AMD CPUs you can take a look here (the prices are given for 1,000-unit quantities).
