To tell the truth we thought that there will be no more mention of the Pentium III processors on 0.13micron Tualatin/256 core. However, today when we were impatiently waiting for any kind of info on the price drop (see this news story) we just by some lucky chance took a look at Intel’s official price list and ... Oh, yes! It turned out that starting from October 14, it includes "1.20GHz w/ 256k cache (.13) FC-PGA2" and "1.13A GHz w/ 256k cache (.13) PC-PGA2", which cost $268 and $225 respectively in 1,000-unit quantities.
Of course, these were none other but the notorious Pentium III (Tualatin/256), which seemed to have be gone forever. Certainly, Intel kept shipping them in limited quantities to its OEM partners for a long time, however the fact that they appeared in the company’s official price-list seemed to us absolutely unreal. Nevertheless, the fact is undeniable.
The most interesting thing about it is that Celeron 1.2GHz based on the same 0.13micron Tualatin/256 core costs almost 2.5 times less than Pentium III 1.2GHz (compare $103 and $268). And the difference between them lies actually with the clock frequency multipliers...
