According to our French friends over at Clubic, Elitegroup (the closest SiS’s partner) announced its new mainboard on SiS745 chipset officially. The detailed specs of the chipset we have already described in this news story.
The newcomer features pretty logical specifications. The board is designed in ATX form-factor, supports Socket A processors and has 3 DIMM slots for the maximum of 3GB PC2700/PC2100 DDR SDRAM. besides, there are 5 PCI slots, an AGP 4x slot and 1 AMR slot. unfortunately, the guys didn’t list any more details on this new product that is why we can’t say for sure if the board has any 10/100 Ethernet or IEEE 1394 (Firewire) on it, though the chipset does support them.
The new K7S5A solution should start shipping next month already, however, we will believe it only when we see the boards with our own eyes. At least in Japan :) the approximate price of this mainboard is claimed to be around $88.5, which is not that much at all for a modern Socket A solution.
By the way, we believe it is worth mentioning that according to this news story of ours, PC2700 and IEEE 1394 (Firewire) are not the only distinguishing features of SiS745. There is some info that SiS745 uses an enhanced memory controller borrowed from SiS645. Unfortunately, we will be able to say if it is true or not only after the tests.
