Pentium 4 Mainboards to Acquire New Cheaper Design.

As you may have already noticed, Intel is now seeking all possible ways to push its Pentium 4 into the mainstream market, that’s why the company does its best to reduce the price of the Pentium 4 based systems at any rate. We got a word from our sources that Intel is now working on developing a new 4-layer reference design for i850 based mainboards. New Intel’s guidelines are most likely to be completed by the time the developers start working on Socket478 i850 based mainboards. It means that the cost of Pentium 4 mainboards on i850 will be reduced by another 20-30% compared to the cost of the today’s 6-layer boards on i850. All this should happen some time in August. At the same time we should also see the first Brookdale chips with PC133 SDRAM support, however, we doubt that it may make i850 based mainboards less demanded. Intel 850 features much higher memory bus bandwidth that’s why this chipset will be irreplaceable for high-performance solutions.
