One of Taiwanese marketing companies reported very interesting numbers today. It was announced that the number of sold VIA chips for Socket A platforms compared to that for Socket370 platforms made 4:6 (in percents), while last quarter the ratio made 3:7. In other words, VIA chipsets for Socket A processors became 10% more popular this year, while the Socket370 chipsets – lost about 10%. Also the company reported that in March VIA sold over 5 million chipsets, which makes the number of sold Socket A chipsets equal to 2 million.
By the way, it will be very interesting to see how these numbers change after Pentium 4 enters the mass market. Especially since VIA hasn’t yet got the license for its Pentium 4 chipset...
