Hynix Unveils Fast 256Mb DDR SDRAM. [08/29/2002 03:11 PM]

Hynix Semiconductor today announced its new 256Mb (8M x 32) DDR SDRAM memory chips. The company is said to begin sampling now. Commercial shipments will be started later this year. The novelties can work at clock-speeds of up to 350MHz (effective 700MHz), packed in 144-ball FBGA package and provide x32-bit wide interface.

The new high-density, wide-bandwidth chips are proposed for graphics cards, routers, hard disk drives and other computer related appliances that require high performance of memory. It is quite natural that graphics cards developers are now extremely interested in these new memory chips, since DDR SDRAM bandwidth is a critical factor limiting 3D-graphics performance in present applications.

According to the company’s spokesperson, Hynix will reveal new memory chips that are able to operate at up to 400MHz frequency in the very near future.
