As it is forecast, Xeon series based on Foster core (a server version of Pentium 4 with SMP support) is to be released in May. The pioneers will feature 1.6-1.7GHz clock speed and 256Kb L2 cache.
Speaking of mainboards designed for this CPU, we have dug out some info dwelling on three ones:
- TYAN Thunder i860 S2603. Equipped with two Socket 603 for Foster CPUs, the board has one AGP 4x Pro slot, two 64-bit and three 32-bit PCI slots, an on-board Dual Ultra-160 SCSI controller by LSI and an on-board Dual 10/100 Ethernet controller. Seek for a photo here.
- Iwill DF400-SN. This dual-processor Socket 603 mainboard support up to 8GB memory. For this purpose it is bundled with 8 RIMM slots. The board sports one AGP Pro slot, two 64-bit and three 32-bit PCI slots, an on-board Dual Ultra-160 SCSI controller and an on-board Dual 10/100 Ethernet controller. The photo is published here.
- SuperMicro P4DC6 is a dual-processor Socket 603 board for Foster with four RIMM slots. Other slots are: 1 AGP Pro, 2 PCI64, 4 PCI, 1 CNR. The board places an on-board Dual Ultra-160 SCSI controller by Adaptec and Dual 10/100 Ethernet controller. You may find a photo here.
