In course of the current CeBIT session one could see the first mainboards based on not yet announced SiS633 and SiS733 chipsets for Intel Pentium III and AMD Athlon CPUs respectively. Let us remind you that these single-chip chipsets are a variation of SiS635 and SiS 735 supporting PC133 SDRAM instead of DDR SDRAM.
You can see the new mainboards built on these chips at Gigabyte’s booth:
- Gigabyte GA-6SXD. This mainboard is designed in ATX form-factor and is based on SiS 633. It supports Socket 370/FC-PGA processors and is equipped with three DIMM slots, one AGP 4x, five PCI, one ISA and one AMR slot (see the photo)
- Gigabyte GA-7SXD. It is an analogue of the previous board based on SiS 733 and supporting Socket A CPUs. Apart from that, it has no AMR slot. (see the photo)
As we can deduce from the characteristics, these mainboards are marketed for value PCs. It sounds natural since chipsets by SiS are traditionally used in cheap products due to their pleasantly low price.
