Strange as it may seem, Samsung is the second manufacturer after WD to switch over to 30GB platters. According to TecChannel, Samsung demonstrates at CeBIT a new series of SpinPoint V30 hard disc drives equipped with 30GB platters. The discs feature 5400 RPM of spindle rotation rate and 30/60GB of capacity. SpinPoint V30 family will be provided with 512Kb buffer and UlraATA/100 interface.
Internal data transfer speed of the new discs is 50.25GB per second, average access time is 8.9ns. For a stronger impression, Samsung has also implemented acoustic management.
SpinPoint V30 HDDs should appear on the outlets in April pricing at $135 and $200 for 30GB and 60GB versions.
