As you may know, for July 2001 Intel has scheduled two new chipsets, i815G and i815EG, which are devised to replace the popular i810 line. Someone rushed to put a gravestone over all the i810 family, but the things took an unexpected turn. Some non-official sources relate that i810E and i810E2 will be shipped in mass till Q1 2002. It’s only in Q2 that the manufacturing will be stopped. And the shipments of i810 chipset will last till summertime.
No doubts, the long life of these chipsets can be explained first of all with their outrageous popularity among the OEMs. Intel is still a steady leader in this market. Presently i810 and i810E occupy 70% of the sector.
Let us remind you that i815G and i815EG will be modified versions of i815 and i815E respectively. In fact, only one point will be changed: in i815G series will offer no opportunity to use external AGP Video.
The difference between i815G and i810 comes to the support of greater memory capacity, PC133 SDRAM and CPUs with Tualatin core, performed by i815G.
