CeBIT still makes Hanover an attractive place for reporters. Another remarkable event is AMD’s first really working Athlon CPU with Palomino core. According to updated roadmap the company will start manufacturing this CPU for desktop computers in mass only in Q3, nevertheless AMD can already pride itself of Athlon CPUs with the new core working at 1533MHz. The demonstrated sample performed at 266MHz FSB on a common Gigabyte GA-7DX mainboard. This is another fact to support the statement that new Palomino will be compatible with the modern Socket A mainboards.
Alongside with that, AMD showcased server versions of Palomino, which are intended for single- and dual-processor systems built first of all on AMD 760MP core logic. It is noteworthy that server Palomino will have lower frequency than desktop CPUs. For instance, the demonstrated dual-processor system was equipped with 1200MHz CPUs.
