Western Digital has announced its biggest HDD from Caviar series featuring spindle rotation speed of 7200 RPM. Unlike all the other Caviar/7200 models, the new HDD uses platters of 30MB instead of the standard 20MB. This way, part of the total capacity is not used at all (3 platters x 30GB = 90GB). We were sorry to find no further specifications. The only detail we can provide is the noise level - 33dBA.
Caviar/7200 HDD 80GB is reported to start shipping next month.
