Today Intel has announced another server processor, Pentium III Xeon 900MHz, meant for 4 and 8-way servers and costing $3692. The new processor features 2MB L2 cache, 100MHz FSB frequency and is supported by Profusion and ServerWorks HE3 chipsets. It should become the last representative of Xeon family based on 0.18-micron Pentium III core.
The following Intel’s CPUs intended for 4 and 8-way High-End servers will be built on Foster core, which is based on the architecture of Pentium 4. In Q4 Intel must announce a corresponding Foster with 512KB and 1MB L3 cache working at the frequency of 1.6GHz.
