We received a word about the price for Intel 845 (Brookdale). As it was reported, in the beginning the chipset will cost about $40 per piece (shipped in 10000-unit quantities and more), that is notably less than Intel 850, but more than Intel 185/815EP.
With a price of this scale Intel 845 can be nearly referred to mainstream solutions - the position Intel is aiming it at. But to ensure a smooth switch from Pentium III to elder solutions, the price for Intel 845 should come down to the bar of $30. In fact, we have no doubts that finally it will - it’s just a matter of time. Time and performance, for, as we have already mentioned, if the alliance of «Intel 845 + Pentium 4» fails to beat «Intel 815 + Pentium III» in performance, Pentium 4 can abandon its hopes for an easy victory.
