We came across some info as to how Intel is going to increase the share of Pentium 4 among its high-performance processors up to 75% by the end of this year.
According to this source, Intel forecasts that in the end of 2001 Intel 845 chipset (i.e., its first version with PC133 SDRAM support) will occupy a magnificent share of 33% of all the Pentium 4 chipsets sold. In other words, every third Pentium 4 chipset sold in 2001 will be Intel 845 (Brookdale)! Considering the fact that Intel 845 is due only in August-September 2001, while Intel 850 is in broad sale since Q4 2000, we may call the 33% a highly impressive figure.
As you can see, Intel’s desire to promote Pentium 4 at a mass scale is really strong. And it’s Intel 845 chipset which looks most promising. We are uncertain about outcome yet, but Intel’s enthusiasm turns us optimistic. Sadly, it’s absolutely impossible to say, whether the performance of Pentium 4 systems with PC133 SDRAM will alter anyhow in comparison with that of Pentium III configurations. Should it drop, the optimism will be gravely spoilt.
