Appian Graphics (which HydraVision technology is used in ATI RADEON VE graphics accelerator), announced today the release of the Appian Hurricane, the first product in a new line of graphics cards based on ATI’s new Radeon graphics accelerator. The newcomer features 32MB of DDR SDRAM and ATI’s new RADEON VE graphics processor, the Appian Hurricane supports dual-screen resolution up to 1600x1200x16bpp at 75Hz. The Appian Hurricane offers one DVI and one analog output and comes with a DVI-to-analog adapter. Like all Appian solutions, the Appian Hurricane ships with Appian’s acclaimed HydraVision desktop-management software and the AppianXtras suite, including AppianRotate, which allows users to rotate a display for portrait mode support. With the release of the PCI-format card, users will be able to power up to 16 displays with eight Appian Hurricanes (seven PCI, one AGP).
The Appian Hurricane AGP version will be available in mid March, for a suggested retail price of $199. The PCI-format card will ship later in 2001, price to be determined.
Although Appian Hurricane is very similar to ATI RADEON VE, its price is $70 higher. Why so? Well, due to Appian’s special features, such as:
- AppianXtras suite (additional software);
- The possibility to use several Hurricanes simultaneously, which allows connecting up to 16 displays to a single PC.
