A new Tyan Socket A mainboard based on AMD-760MP, Thunder K7 (S2462), which should start selling in May, will hardly surprise anyone today. However, luckily it is not the only Socket A mainboard on Tyan’s nearest roadmap. Besides Thunder K7 (S2462) the company is planning to put into life one more pretty ambitious project: to launch in Q3 2001 another "Tigers" mainboard. This dual-Socket A mainboard will be based on AMD-770 (760MPX) chipset, which is none other but an enhanced AMD-760 supporting 66MHz PCI64. The detailed specs of this product are still kept secret, however, the first samples are expected to appear in early summer.
So, one of the leading server mainboards manufacturers, Tyan Company, is going to continue pushing forward Palomino CPUs into the server market. Well, let’s hope that it is not for nothing and that dual-Athlon platforms will occupy a good niche in the server market.
