Having done the same thing to desktop and mobile Pentium III processors Intel decided that it was now the turn of its Celeron babies to be modified so that to keep pace with the time. The CPUs with the working frequencies equal to 733, 766, 800 and 850MHz (this CPU hasn’t been announced yet) will acquire a new core.
Just like by desktop Pentium III processors, new D0 core of the Celerons will have higher Vcore (increased from 1.7V up to 1.75V) and new core stepping (changed from 0686 to 068A). Besides, the company also reports that the manufacturers will have to introduce some minor BIOS code modification to the already existing mainboards for Intel Celeron processors.
The first Celerons based on a new core will be testing between 23 and 30 March, which should be finished by 16 May already. So, starting from 1 June we can expect mass supplies of the renewed processors.
