Without much hullabaloo one more low-cost mainboard supporting AMD Duron CPUs turned up. This product based on VIA KL133 (it is just the same as VIA KM133 but with no support for external AGP graphics) is offered by SOYO. Its name is SY-K7VLM-B and it has already appeared in retail stores in Japan for some $99.
The specs of this newcomer are quite standard for a low-cost solution, which it actually is: MicroATX form-factor, 2 DIMM slots for up to 1GB PC100/PC133 SDRAM, 3 PCI slots, S3 Savage4 integrated graphics core, ATA/100 support and integrated sound.
Taking into account that the prices in Japan are usually about 10-15% higher than in the rest of the world, we dare state that the shortage of cheap mainboards for Duron processors (as cheap as those for Intel Celeron, which are based on i810/i810E/i810E2) has every chance to sink into oblivion very soon. Of course, even the cost of $80-$90 doesn’t let us call it a really cheap product (some mainboards for Celeron are much cheaper still), however the prices should definitely drop as soon as more mainboards of the kind crop up in the market.
