Having received Intel’s permission to manufacture Pentium 4 chipsets, SiS decided to launch 2 new chipsets for this CPU in the nearest future. The first one, SiS645, will be a discrete chipset supporting PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM. It should start sampling in August-September, and mass production is to start in early 2002. Besides, SiS is also planning an integrated Pentium 4 chipset SiS650 with a totally new graphics core. Its features will be close to those of SiS645 and is due somewhere in mid 2002. So, the third chipset makers will be pushing forward DDR SDRAM for Pentium 4 next year, while Intel will keep promoting RDRAM in the mainstream market. Intel itself is going to promote DDR SDRAM only in servers.
