NEC Started Producing USB 2.0 Controllers. [03/08/2001 04:59 PM]

NEC Started mass production of its USB 2.0 controller (PD720100). Now the company makes around 100,000 pieces per month, however, the volumes should rise up to 600,000 pieces by July. The novelty is selling for $8.5. The remarkable thing about this controller is that it enables mainboard manufacturers to start introducing support for this protocol in their upcoming products, even though there aren’t yet any chipsets supporting USB 2.0! The first mainboard manufacturer to start using new NEC devices is expected to be MSI.
