Today SiS officially announced that they have signed a license agreement with Intel concerning the development of Pentium 4 chipset. The details of this agreement remain a top secret.
In other words, VIA Technologies is now the only large Taiwanese mainboard manufacturer that is left without Intel’s permission to produce Pentium 4 chipsets. It looks as if Intel has handed out the licenses only to those companies, which will deal with integrated chipsets (ALi, ATI, SiS). This way Intel tries to save time and trouble developing low-cost solutions for its latest CPU and to focus all efforts on the development of high-performance chipsets.
