We received a word from our unofficial sources concerning three new "packages" from NVIDIA, the current GeForce2 MX family will be split into. We have already told you a bit about these solutions on 28 February (see February archive). Now come more interesting details:
  • MX100. 32bit 8/16MB 166MHz DDR SDRAM. The chip frequency hasn’t been reported yet. As we have already told you, these cards will be positioned for the Extreme Low-End sector, where performance doesn’t matter that much, actually.
The mass production is scheduled for June 2001.
  • MX200. 64bit 32MB 166MHz SDRAM. The chip frequency – 175MHz. The cards will be equipped with four 64Mbit chips (16bit each). These cards are called to replace the phased out TNT M64 and TNT2 Pro.
The cards should start selling in mid March 2001.
  • MX400. 128bit 32/64MB 166MHz SDRAM or 64bit 32/64MB 200MHz DDR SDRAM. The chip frequency – 175MHz. The performance of these cards is expected to be just the same as that of the today’s GeForce2 MX based ones.
The cards should appear in the market in mid March 2001.
As we have already said last time, these cards do not represent anything extraordinary. Their appearance is quite a logical thing, i.e. NVIDIA is trying to cover all the market sectors at the lowest expenses possible. In other words they are trying to universalize the production and to phase out older chips models.
Of course, we are interested in seeing the performance of MX200/MX100 live but nothing else. We do know what the original GeForce2 MX is capable of :-)
