As we had expected, yesterday Intel announced the launching of its new mobile processor with low power consumption – Pentium III 700 LV. The CPU supports 100MHz system bus frequency and is intended for mini-notebooks (under 1.2kg). It supports SpeedStep technology, works at 700MHz with a core voltage of 1.35 volts while the system is plugged into an AC outlet, and at only 500MHz and 1.1 volts (consuming less than 1W) while on battery power. In 1,000-unit quantities the CPU will cost around $416.
So, Intel has strengthened its positions in the mobile market of low voltage processors even more now. This will definitely tell on Crusoe’s future. Now we can’t wait to see what Transmeta is going to undertake in this respect.
