Intel’s intention to carry out a price reduction on 4 March 2001 was unveiled long time ago already. No wonder that AMD, Intel’s competitor No 1, also knows about it. That is why AMD’s plans to respond with a similar action on 5 March (24 hours later) are hardly that unexpected.
According to a post at The Register, nothing has been settled for sure yet, however, AMD sent out a warning message to it distributors:
This is merely a warning. AMD has not yet committed to this date and can at anytime move it to an earlier or later date. During the next two weeks please do not stock your processor inventory at high levels.
This means only one thing: something is going to happen in two weeks. You have already guessed, what it is, haven’t you?
