According to our reliable unofficial sources, Intel started reducing the amounts of i815E chipsets shipped to the mainboard makers offering a cheaper i815EP instead.
Together with a twist towards 815EP, Intel has also increased the price difference between 815EP and 815E up to $4: in 1,000-unit quantities i815EP costs $30 and i815E $34. Intel expects this move to push mainboard manufacturers towards i815EP.
So, the company keeps promoting its pretty nice solution and hopes to cause its major competitor, VIA, some causes for concern in the nearest future.
By the way, we still can’t make out what was the idea of introducing an expensive chipset with "dead" integrated graphics and then removing this graphics core in half a year? This was none other but a waste of precious time...
