Today ATI announced that they were reducing the official (recommended) prices for their RADEON based graphics cards by $20. Now the Company’s price-list looks as follows:

• ATI RADEON 64MB VIVO - $199;
• ATI RADEON 32MB DDR - $149;
• ATI RADEON VE Dual Display 32MB DDR - $99;
• ATI RADEON 32MB SDR - $99.

Well, it seems that ATI has finally understood some competition principles and now this company, which used to be quite slow a while ago, starts reacting adequately to the changes in the graphics market. Now that the price has been reduced, ATI RADEON 32MB SDR will be able to shake the positions of NVIDIA GeForce2 MX and the elder models equipped with DDR memory will become worthy competitors to NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS based cards.
As for ATI’s responses to NVIDIA GeForce2 Pro, GeForce2 Ultra and NV20, there is hardly anything we could say here. And even though the expensive cards costing over 4200 are hardly that very popular, this lagging behind in the High-End graphics market may one day result into the weakening of ATI’s positions in other market sectors. Just in case you forgot: ATI is going to start manufacturing RADEON II, capable to compete with NV20, only in June.
