VIA reports that their success in the past year 2000 lets them be sure that they will win 50% of the DDR chipset market this year, which will undoubtedly strengthen the company’s positions in the overall chipset market, here they have about 40% now.
We should mention that VIA’s intentions look more than realistic. Its major competitors in this field, ALi and SiS, can’t boast any significant success promoting their DDR products, and Intel hasn’t yet made up its mind when they should launch their DDR chipset for Pentium 4. Moreover, VIA is very enthusiastic in pushing forward this memory type and we have already told you in our news what they actually achieved here.
So, while the competitors are hesitating, VIA keeps up expanding into the chipset market. We won’t be surprised if this company wins 60 or even 70% of the chipset market by the end of the year. They really have every chance for it.
