IBM today introduced the first server HDD featuring 15,000rpm rotation speed and 36GB storage capacity. This newcomer is called Ultrastar 36Z15 and it allowed IBM surpass Seagate in the High-End server sector. Also IBM will be offering a 18GB modification. Here are some specs of the new hard disk drive:
  • Storage capacity: 18.4/36.7GB;
  • Spindle rotation speed: 15,000rpm;
  • Interface: Ultra 160 and Ultra 320 SCSI;
  • Average access time: 3.4ms;
  • Platters: 4/6;
  • Acoustic features and power consumption: just the same as by HDDs with 10,000rpm;
  • Buffer size: 4MB.
