We received a word about Intel’s intention to introduce considerable changes to the prices on both elder Pentium III models (that is a widely known idea, actually) as well as on mobile processors (i.e. where Intel doesn’t need to worry, because it’s positions in this sector and the CPU pricing look quite promising). Let’s have a look at a chart of the expected prices (for 1000-unit quantities) on Intel’s mobile CPUs that will be valid starting with 29 January:

A general observation is that all mobile processors will turn 30% cheaper. It’s especially impressive, since there is no serious competition yet on the part of Transmeta and AMD - Intel’s major rivals. Is Intel really afraid of the “apparently harmless” (due to its high power consumption) Mobile Duron? Well, that is hardly possible. Perhaps, Intel’s competitors will create something extraordinary in the months to follow...
