If you are carefully watching the battle between two microprocessor leaders, Intel and AMDF, you may be really curious why is AMD so slow with introducing new faster models and when will they finally come out. There are numerous opinions on the matter all over the web. As we read over here today, AMD Japan said it will release a 1.3GHz chip by the end of March, 1.4GHz and 1.5GHz chips by the end of June and a 1.7GHz chip by the end of December. The chipmaker will also re-enter the operating frequency battle for notebook PC products with Mobile Duron, its new chip for notebook PCs released on Jan. 15. By the end of 2001, users may see a notebook PC model with a chip running at 1GHz, Sakai, President Kazuo Sakai of AMD Japan, said.
Well, hopefully, these promises come true. However, we would like to point out to you that last week Mr. Sanders mentioned that the due date for AMD Athlon 1.7GHz was Q3 2001 and not December. In fact, AMD should be quite worried about its market positions, because if 1.7GHz model does come out in December only, then Northwood 2GHz, which is scheduled for Q3 will have all the chances to beat the fastest Athlon CPU easily...
