Thanks to Jack from Hongkong for the following info on the upcoming AMD Duron 850MHz CPU. He told us that AMD Hongkong claims the new Duron processor will come out next week. This CPU will be still based on the old Spitfire core (the new Morgan core will be first implemented in a 900MHz version). This move is most likely to be caused by AMD’s desire to leave Intel behind not only in terms of the value CPU performance but also in terms of their clock frequencies (as you probably remember, Intel introduced an 800MHz Celeron on 3 January). In fact, AMD Duron processors can boast such a huge potential that the company could easily announce a 1GHz version right now even (and supply them in sufficient quantities). However, there is hardly any need for them to do it right now...
