The August increase in the chipsets supplies can be explained by the growing interest of OEM customers, mainly notebook and PC makers, to SiS’ products in the first place. At present, SiS chipsets are used in the PCs assembled by such companies as Fujitsu, Hitachi, NEC, Samsung, Sony, Uniwill, Advantech, ICP Electronics and Trigem. The notebooks on SiS chipsets are produced by ASUS, Clevo, ECS, KDS21, Mitac, Twinhead and Uniwill. Also ASUS and Shuttle supply barebone systems also built on SiS chipsets.
There are three reasons explaining the expected further increase in the shipping volumes. First, autumn is a very active buying season. Second, the company will win more partners among the mainboard makers. Starting from September SiS chipsets will be ordered by Hua Ching company, which is ASUS’ subdivision dealing with the production of low-cost mainboards, and First Tech, which is a part of Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry). And third, do not forget about the recently increased prices of the Pentium 4 chipsets from VIA. Although none of VIA’s customers have yet ordered more chipsets from SiS, we suppose this is very likely to be the case one day.
The most popular SiS products, which make 60% of the overall chipset supplies now are SiS650 and SiS650DX. These two solutions are designed for Pentium 4 and have an integrated graphics core. They are most popular among the PC makers. Moreover, SiS650 is more beloved by the USA and Japanese customers, while better value SiS650DX without the external AGP 4x graphics cards support is more demanded in China.
Also we can point out the growing interest to the recently announced integrated SiS651 chipset for Pentium 4 CPUs. It supports processors with 533MHz bus, DDR333 SDRAM and USB 2.0 and ATA/133 interfaces. Besides, SiS648 also draws a lot of public attention due to its AGP 8x and DDR400 support. The chipset started shipping in late July.
In particular, the following mainboards based on SiS648 are to start shipping in the nearest future: ABIT SR7-8X, ASUS P4S8X, AOpen AX45-8X, BIOSTAR M7SDK, DFI NS80-EL, ECS L4S8A, Gigabyte GA-8SG è GA-8SGXP, MSI MS-6585, PCCHIPS M938, Shuttle AS45 and SOYO P4S648. I believe that This list is far not complete and later on we will see more products joining.
