The agenda of the upcoming Microprocessor Forum 2002, which usually attracts attention of everyone interested in the CPU and contemporary semiconductor technologies, has been announced recently. As usual, Microprocessor Forum will be a place for a lot of new products to be announced and for the details of the new architectures and technologies to be revealed. This year the Forum will be held in San-Jose (California) from October 14 until October 17.

Here is the agenda:

  • IBM will announce the technical details of the new 64bit PowerPC processor for desktops and Low-End servers. Based on Power4 architecture, this superscalar CPU supports SMP, over 160 new vector instructions and boasts a system bus with up to 6.4GB/sec bandwidth.
  • Intel will tell the public about its new mobile Banias processor. They will reveal some info on its performance and power saving technologies. Also they will dwell on the chipsets for this new CPU family (Odem).
  • VIA will announce it next C3 processor based on x86 Nehemia core and working at 1.2GHz core clock. Nehemia is expected to support multi-media instructions (SSE) and feature special design with ultra-low heat dissipation. Also VIA will tell a bit more about the future of its C3 processor family.
  • Intel will disclose its future plans concerning the Itanium and Xeon CPU families.
  • AMD will provide more details about their upcoming Opteron processors and their potential in multi-processor systems. Also AMD promised to explain the ways of solving memory coherence problems in Opteron systems.
Besides that, you will get a chance to learn more about numerous network solutions, memory technologies and unusual processor designs.
