ASUS officially announced the launching of three new mainboards based on VIA KT400, SiS648 and SiS650-GL chipsets. Here they are:
  • A7V8X. This is a Socket A mainboard based on VIA KT400/VT8235. The board features 3 DIMM slots for DDR400/DDR333/DDR266 SDRAM, an AGP 8x slot and 6 PCI slots. Besides, it is equipped with the integrated ATA/133 RAID controller from Promise, dual-channel SerialATA-150 controller, IEEE1394-controller supporting two ports and a network controller from BroadCom. Also the chipset supports 6 USB 2.0 ports. The mainboard features hardware monitoring functions, such as CPU temperature control via the thermal diode built into the processor core. It also boasts a set of overclocking friendly functions.
  • P4S8XThis Socket478 mainboard for Pentium 4 processors with 400MHz/533MHz FSB is based on SiS648/SiS963 chipset. There are 3 DIMM slots supporting DDR333/DDR266 SDRAM (DDR400 is supported unofficially), an AGP 8x slot and 6 PCI slots. Also the board supports ATA/133 RAID, SerialATA-150 (two channels), 2 IEEE1394 ports, 6 USB 2.0 ports and 10/100Mbit Fast Ethernet. Hardware enthusiasts will be happy to find some overclocking friendly options, such as Vcore, Vdimm and Vagp adjustment. The mainboard should start selling by September 1, and is expected to cost around $150 for a fully-functional version, and around $125 for a version without ATA/133 RAID and SerialATA.
  • P4SDR-VM. This is a MicroATX Socket478 mainboard for Pentium 4 processors with 400MHz bus based on the integrated SiS650GL/SiS691 chipset. There are 2 DIMM slots supporting PC133 SDRAM and 3 PCI slots. The mainboard is a fully integrated product with high-quality graphics core from SiS and integrated sound.
