KT400 is a pretty promising solution for Socket A CPUs, which is rumored to support DDR400 memory, AGP 8x interface and new faster V-Link 8x bus connecting the chipset North and South Bridges.
At the same time, VIA is not hurrying to announce its baby officially. The thing is that the new DDR400 memory standard supported by the chipset hasn’t been yet approved by JEDECVIA, which is planning to based the promotion of the new chipset solely on DDR400 support, prefers to wait for the situation to become more or less clear.
The new DDR400 memory modules already manufactured by a number of memory makers require higher voltage: 2.6V instead of the regular 2.5V. Therefore, it might appear slightly harder to design mainboards with proper DDR400 SDRAM support and proper implementation of the DIMM slots power circuit. This is exactly one of the reasons holding VIA back, because they sincerely hope that very soon JEDEC will solve the problem with the upcoming DDR400 memory modules.
