Not so long ago (see this news story) Samsung announced that they were going to support DDR400 memory standard very actively, even though JEDEC Committee is not in a rush to adopt it as an industry standard. Of course, this decision was made after the negotiations with the chipset makers, which will be producing solutions supporting this memory type. And now we discovered that these were not only negotiations. NVIDIA, SiS and VIA signed bilateral agreements with Samsung, where they stated that they would develop and produce chipset supporting DDR400 and Samsung on its part would ship this memory type to the market in sufficient quantities. Keeping in mind Samsung’s production capacities and the fact that this is very new memory type, we expect that they will manage to satisfy the demand of the market for DDR400. So, now we can state that no matter which decision JEDEC makes, the DDR400 will anyway become a de-facto standard.
