Our forecasts regarding the growth of AMD based notebooks keep coming true. This time the shipments of portable solutions based on AMD CPUs were announced by Acer and ASUS, although the two companies will boast absolutely different approach to the positioning of their products.

Acer will soon update its Aspire family by adding there new Athlon notebooks with 14.1 and 15 inches monitors. The initial price of the novelties will make only $999. According to Digitimes, these Value models will make up to 25% of the entire mobile shipments by Acer.

ASUS is also planning to enlarge its L2 mobile product range. The new solutions will feature 14.1-inch matrix and will be based on AMD Athlon XP and AMD Duron processors. Unlike Acer, the company is going to position its AMD based solutions as High-End products (including those based on Duron :) equipped with all sorts of wireless communications devices, such as WLAN or Bluetooth. ASUS products will be selling mostly in Europe, where the company has very strong positions now.

We would also like to point out that both companies do appreciate their good relations with Intel because they agreed not to sell AMD based notebooks in the Asian region, Intel is now paying special attention to.

No doubt that the manufacturers have taken the concept of AMD Athlon based notebooks seriously, as Athlon is a low-cost solution with excellent performance, which can satisfy even the most sophisticated user. We also look forward to new products of the kind from other manufacturers now.
