Well, good cannot be eternal, you know. So, it looks as if there is an end coming to "overclocker’s paradise" in the Pentium 4 family. Intel officially announced the discontinuance program for the boxed Pentium 4 1.6A (0.13micron), which has every right to be called "overclocker’s dream". The shipments were terminated on June 21, however, the CPUs can still be selling in some stores, unless the distributors run out of them too.

Of course, there still exist tray versions of these CPUs, however, in case of tray Pentium 4 the users will never get the beautiful cooler included into the boxed package, and secondly, these Pentium 4 1.6A are also most likely to last not really long. Anyway, let’s hope for the better, though there are a few bad signs already: both CPU versions are pretty rare already. So, it looks as if overclockers would have to shift to less attractive Pentium 4 1.8GHz (the boxed version of this CPU sells now for $179.3).
