SiS658 uses two memory channels and works officially with RDRAM PC1066 (Intel hasn’t yet certified PC1066 for use with i850E), besides, “non-official” support of PC1200 is promised.
Among other interesting features of SiS658+SiS963 chipset combination, AGP 8X, IEEE1394 controller and USB 2.0 should be noted.
Commercial supplies of SiS RDRAM chipset will start in the fourth quarter of this year. Taking into consideration the fact, that memory manufacturers have increased lately the number of Rambus products, SiS will be able to sell their SiS658 quite favorably, because Intel has refused from further RDRAM using in their products. Another question is who is going to buy it: the corporate sector prefers Intel chipset based solutions, while smaller consumers try to obtain the cheapest solutions, and RDRAM is one of them for sure.
