Plextor, who was one of the suppliers of the most expensive SCSI CD-R/RW drives, now manufacturers cheaper, but still very reliable and quality IDE devices. The latter are really fast, but still significantly cheaper compared to SCSI brethren, hence, almost all the customers now choose IDE drives instead of SCSI. Nevertheless, there are a bit conservative users, who demand only SCSI storage appliances and do not want to hear anything about IDE and so on. Specially for these people Plextor announced its PX-W4012TS/NE PlexWriter.

The novelty can read and write CDs with 40x speed and can overwrite CD-RWs with 12x speed. It features 4MB buffer and is compatible with Ultra SCSI (SCSI-3) interface. The PlexWriter 40/12/40S (PX-W4012TS/NE) features all Plextor’s technologies, such as BurnProof, EasyWrite, BP-Rec and so on.

The newcomer will be available in mid-January. Plextor has not revealed any prices, but keeping in mind the advanced interface of the PX-W4012TS/NE, we can assume that it may cost approximately two times more compared to IDE drives.
