Intel Unveils Pentium 4 3.06GHz Processor. Hyper-Threading: One Small Step For Mankind, One Giant Leap For Intel. [11/14/2002 07:22 AM]

Intel today unveiled its Pentium 4 3.06GHz processor with the Hyper-Threading technology support. It is the first time the desktop processors achieved frequency above 3GHz, not a milestone, but still an interesting fact, and it is also the first time Intel enabled the Hyper-Threading technology in their consumer CPUs.

The novelty is intended for Socket 478 physical interface and 533MHz Quad Pumped Bus, it features 20KB L1 cache (8KB for data, 12KB for instructions) and 512KB L2 cache. As all current Pentium 4 chips, this one is based on the Northwood core that is manufactured with 0.13micron copper interconnect technology. It is interesting to point out that the Vcore of the Pentium 4 3.06GHz is the higher compared to the predecessors - 1.525V.

The new processor is priced at $637 in 1000 unit quantities, the leading personal computer vendors have already announced their products based on the Pentium 4 3.06GHz CPU.
